The Featherstone and District Community Events Association have held their annual October (Halloween) festival for there consecutive years2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007; they have put a lot of effort and gone to great lengths to improve the event each year.

The event consists of a parade of upwards of 200 parents and children in fancy dress, various floats depicting Halloween themes, majorettes, marching bands, street entertainers, Burmese dog carts, local councillors, Town Mayor and Mayoress, and representatives of the Metropolitan Council.

The parade proceeds to our local super market (Kwik save) car park, where there is a trailer to act as a stage provided by Asda super markets, where various compations are judged and prizes awarded such as best fancy dress, majorette competitions.

In and around the car park and shopping precinct there is a fun fair and various stalls with sweets, novelties, food out lets and various exhibitions featuring local business and coal mining memorabilia.

Local residents, businesses, schools, pubs, clubs some of which organise kids discos and further take part by decorating their premises the best decorated in each category being awarded a prize, the involvement of the pubs and clubs goes on into the evening when they host discos and fancy dress nights and competitions

The association have put in a lot of effort to improve the event each year by accessing small grants as illustrated in this application and through further fund raising intend to hold the event again in 2008.

Plans to further extend the activities on the day of the event are now well in hand

Karen, Anyone can attend the October Festival meetings, and any help on the day would be appreciated, or even before the day, posting flyers or putting posters up in the area.

The Featherstone Events Association are a none political group. most of the prizes you see have been found by one man, Tony Sykes. we are very, very grateful for his efforts and to the people who donated.

There was something special about the evening. A week before it was suggested by Tony Sykes that a new award be created by the Featherstone Events Association. Tony helps out each year, helping to raise as much money as possible at our fundraising events.
Tony is a great guy who takes a pride in Featherstone and has an outlook of it people. In his words “Featherstone has some fantastic common people”. One in particular, he sees as a true “hero”. “These un-heard and seen people need to be thanked”.
A decision was made to create an award to be awarded annually to “A True Featherstonian”.
On the night the award was awarded by the Featherstone Mayor and Mayoress. This years winner and first to be awarded this new thank you gesture is,

Congratulations Ken, and well deserved too, Ken does an amazing amount of work for different events in Featherstone, and on many an occasion wishes there was 36 hours in a day and not 24.

Wanted!
 Early morning helpers, and end of day clearers.

If you really fancy getting out of bed on the morning of the 25th to help trim up the venue in the dark and cold please just turn up at the precinct about 6.00a.m. A couple of hours help would be a great. As early as it is there is always plenty of “spirit”
