Today's Express page 20, "The work will involve a right turn ban for road users from Ackworth Road onto Pontefract Road". It's going to be awkward for residents of Purston Park Court, Katrina Grove and Bedford Close etc. Get ready for some chaos.

Have agree on its own it will be difficult. Sadly should also be just the time Green Lane Link Road at Top House corner goes on to 4 way traffic lights.
You could complain but who would listen or give a dam? Roll Eyes

Its chaos out there now and were no where near Christmas. This is going to ruin Christmas for a lot of people with the stress of this on their doorstep. How they allowed a gas company to do this at this time of year is a no brainer. Its no good Councillors saying 'nowt to do we me'. This is our town and Councillors  represent the town on our behalf. We don't want this and it shouldn't be allowed to happen.
We have the right to refuse such work at the busiest time of year and make that company do it at a more sensible time.
Wonder what would happen if they were doing gas works down the Mall when it was the Royal wedding? Yeah we know don't we.
Fev gets crapped on again and its Councillors are crap.

It took me an hour to get from Linpac to Station Lane this afternoon. I am thinking about trying Priory Road, Girnhill Lane,Nunns Lane. Even going via Wragby and Ackworth would be quicker when coming from Wakefield.

OK, done some research into this which everyone can do. There are rumours that the gasworks are connected to a leak but in fact they are not, they are a major gasworks to replace 200 meters of old pipeline. Been on the Government website and sought out the guidelines for such gasworks.
All City Councils work under what is called a 'permit scheme'. Here is the goverment explanation:-
A permit scheme requires those carrying out street works or road works to obtain a permit from the highway authority first. A permit system is pro-active as the undertaker has to actively seek permission to work and an authority needs to consider whether it is appropriate to grant the permit. It therefore gives authorities more scope to coordinate the timing of works in order to reduce disruption. Permits can also be granted with conditions attached, for example covering the times of day at which works may be carried out.
I would like you to pay attention to the part that says:-
A permit system is pro-active as the undertaker has to actively seek permission to work and an authority needs to consider whether it is appropriate to grant the permit
Ladies and gentlemen, someone has signed your Christmas away, the amount of disruption, lost profits for businesses, absolute pain created by this mess is going to be nothing less than phenomenal. Those of you out there who will lose money through your businesses can actually claim it back from the Gas company, that is stated in the Government guidelines.
Now lets get down to business; who and for what reason has signed on a dotted line to allow this to wreck Featherstone's Christmas?
Does anyone have any backbone to stand up to the person(s) that did it.
Is there still political stupidity going on in this town and are we still being punished for having the independent Councillors years ago.
Someone is playing at silly buggers.

Quote from pont and cas 21st November
Road works will be put on hold to reduce disruption to Christmas commuters, WMDC has put an embargo on all scheduled road works between Nov 18th and Jan 6th, the ban also extends to utility companys
Featherstone has gas works going on that are advertised as 'major refurbishment of old piping' but apparently we don't count in this embargo.
What an absolute crap hand we've been dealt here. Its a disgrace.

Hurray a post with back bones included. The reference to Indy vs Labor isn’t far wrong given the questions now being asked.
Wonder how many heads now pop out of sand when it’s on their doorstep?

The official District Council response is basically nothing to do with us, call the gas board, Hmm!
The say goes…….. “you aint seen nothing yet”. It will get far worse.
At least 2 shops have stopped deliveries to Purston that will shortly be followed by anything over the railway lines. If you can not get there you have to say no. Sad

Lets have some facts:-
1. This is a major gas works not an emergency repair, a 12 week scheme as reported in the press.
2. The Council has clearly stated in the press their intention to close all roadworks including utilities prior to the Christmas break across the district and they have except this one.
3. Government legislation gives local authority TOTAL control who digs holes and when.
4. No matter what numpty half soaked dimwit tells you, the above is the truth. Take note no B alls  Wink
5. Someone signed on a dotted line and sanctioned this knowing full well the consequences of it.
6. The busiest time of the year where businesses make most money in this town has been sabotaged.
7. The average IQ of the idiots who sanctioned this is about 37.1 and that includes their shoe size in that.
8. You need two qualifications to be in the local Labour party, the first is the ability to slaver all over your windows while staring out of them and the second is to be blessed with flatulence that can be confused for intelligent conversation. Most of them sport both  Wink

A new method of service laying in the U.K. needs to be adopted. Until it does we are doomed to this type of work continuing for the next 50 years. Sadly far beyond the reach of Featherstone folk at the moment. Sad
Featherstone has been a traffic disaster for over a year and the roads are still a mess. Today is a prime example with traffic backed up all over and the crossings fail on top. Total gridlock, no emergency cover on time possible. No one to moan at that will listen or do anything as usual. Like everything else in Featherstone the last 2 years have seen us slipping to the bad old days of early 2000. Roll Eyes
