just had this picture given of Ackton Hall brick yard. the man on the trailer is Eddie Robson and the man on the ground is Urbot Thompson or DARB as he was known.  |

oh i like the first 2. not seen them before. the old bookies site on the 1st picture has a barn type thing on it. was this part of the brewery does anyone know?

i think this is wakefield rd and the end building is the trading post now dont think the pub was built then You are quite right about the picture it is wakey rd just by the salvation army row of hiuses there used a bookies shop and on the other side it was known as gough's shop father down there used to be a fish shop know it well as we lived over road to this place. |

Having searched the net I came across this picture, unsure of the original copyright. I have asked many people about the school and all remember it but none have photos. It was demolished in the late 90's to make way for housing. |

i think this is wakefield rd and the end building is the trading post now dont think the pub was built then You can see the Jubilee pubs chimneys poking up on the left, the row of terrace houses between the trading post and the Jubilee were known as 'the little square'. There were several more rows behind those occupying what is now St Thomas's school fields. |

Would have been interesting to see a picture looking down Girnhill lane during the time of the last posted photo. There would have been terraced houses either side of the road down girnhill and some down Hardwick road but no Priory road estate, no Girnhill estate, Verner or Huntwick and no Wentworth road etc. Priory road was known as Common lane during that time.

Here is a map from 1850's Feath, there are some very interesting observations on the map.  Priory road which leads onto Wentworth road is marked by me in green. Firstly note the two commons 'West Hardwick common and 'Featherstone common' I would refer people to the laws regarding common land. We have ancient rights which still stand today that give people the absolute right not to have it taken away from them. See here:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_landTechnically the farmer who stole Hardwick common 30 years since and began farming it was actually breaking the law and it should be returned to us. The brick yard that occupied Featherstone common should not have been there and also the whole of Featherstone lions stadium is technically illegal occupancy of common land. Interesting stuff. |

Sharlston, Streethouse and Heath commons have remained intact. Featherstone has had all its commons stolen.  |
