Would have been interesting to see a picture looking down Girnhill lane during the time of the last posted photo. There would have been terraced houses either side of the road down girnhill and some down Hardwick road but no Priory road estate, no Girnhill estate, Verner or Huntwick and no Wentworth road etc. Priory road was known as Common lane during that time.

I remember those houses being demolished before the coal board estate was built.
People didn't generally call it Girnhill Lane, it was often referred to as gas house lane.
the metyhodist church at the crossroads was frequently flooed and had to be pumped out by the army or the sair force
opposite the church at the bottom of gas house lane was henry fox's shop. It sould household goods. just up from the church wqas a sweet shop and a cooked meat shop.
