Very, very sad news
Today in a triadic accident Featherstone character Walt Booth passed away.
I would like to pass my deepest sympathies to his family.
I am shocked as so are many people in Featherstone.
If you knew Walt you will understand this link and my tribute

Walt and I were best mates at Normanton Grammar School. I used to do art and English homeworks at half a crown a go. Walt made sure people paid up.
His dad Eric was a character as well. Eric was a dead ringer for Norman Wisdom. His mam always had the chip pan on and you nevefr went home hungry after visiting their house in Gladstone Street.
There was a group of us in those days who hung around together. Me, Dave 'bip' Bassinder who's dad was caretaker out South Fev Secondary Modrn, Phil Asquith who lived next door but one to Walt, Alan Martin, and John 'Chuck' Myers. Only Walt stayed in Featherstone, although Alan lived not that far away. The rest of us went tgo Uni and followed careers all over the place.
Walt after a few false starts-including working on the railway, became a roofer.
At Normanton Grammar School there was a PE Teacher called Jubb who most kids hated, even the ones who were good at sport. One day the bell tower at Normy caught fire, and Walt was on the roof mending it. Jubby pranced by below him replete in tracksuit. Walt picked a brick up and threw it at Jubby shouting;
"I bet thy thought I'd never get to the top at this school Jubby!"
rest in piece old ****. I'll never forget you.

I remember Walt and Tony Clarkson as the hardest Featherstone rugby players for many a year. If you had Walt and Tony as centre forwards the other team never had a chance. Bloody faces after a scrum and the odd knock out. Hard games for hard men.
Walt was just a natural hard man but not a bully. He was a nice guy. I remember seeing him on stage bending a plastic bottle crate over his head. I have never seen it since nor will ever again. Sure Walt invented the balloon dance.
