This is an old picture of Ackworth Colliery that belongs to my dad! I have had to take a picture of it as it's too big for the scanner!

If it were possible, & you don't mind, could the full size photo be copied?
I would be willing to pay for it & meet up with you.

I think :-
               C  was the power house.
J was a Methane Extraction Plant, before closure.
K the old fan house, was below ground level.

Hi, I am really excited about your photo of ackworth pit, as I used to live in the end house next to the field. My dad(Harry armstrong) moved from featherstone pit(and pit house) to ackworth in 1969, and I lived there until I was 18.
The thomas's, canning, and bennett's, and cliff piper were our nieghbours. I remember bill murry in the medical room, as he used to put plasters on my knees when I fell off my bike.
I would be very gratefull if you, or know of anyone who has anymore photos.
My mum and dad died 19 years ago, and I now live in northumberland.

A the workshops were the electric shop and the fitters shop
my father was an electrician in the electric shop, although obvioiusly he worked underground as well.
I used to fish for sticklebacks in the boilerhouse resevoir.

I probably knew your father.
In later years the main car park on this photo, became Offices, Electricians shop,Fitting shop & Stores.
Happy Memories & good work-mates.
