Twice this week I’ve seen 2 ambulances held up by the level crossings, is it just me or do we seem to have to wait a unnecessarily long time for the crossings to open ?

Got talking to a guy about this the other week. He came up with a suggestion that the stations were the wrong way around. Aparently if the stations were the other side to what they are now then there would be less delays as the train would close the crossing as it set off. Sounds alot better to me. What do you think? The Wakefield platform at Streethouse is able to utilise this set-up but doesn't. The crossings still close before the train arrives. Maybe it's for safety reasons i.e. a train overshooting the station with the gates still open for road traffic.
