Featherstone Girnhill Residents refuse to be ripped off!
It appears that the continuing fight for justice to resolve the Girnhill problem will still be an un-truthful and dirty fight. Headlines and reports over this week appear to be mainly based on the statement issued by WMDC that appears to paint a picture very different from reality.
The beginning of the last chapter started in December 2010. WMDC applied for planning permission to build a road on the estate. Nothing odd you think except WMDC do not own the land in question. This land is still owned by the residents and the developer of the new estate. The twist is that a compulsory purchase order is usually only enforceable when there is a highways issue. When have you ever seen a housing development that has its roads applied for in planning first? Not surprisingly WMDCs planning application was not passed by its own planning committee due to its irregularities. Andy Wallhead head of WMDC regeneration commented on TV that anyone wishing to stay on the estate would be able to. The remaining residents do. Is this now a un-truth? The remaining 3 homes could be built around and have offered to swap about to help the devotement. This is being ignored.
The biggest un-truth appears as well worded comments that suggest the residents are being greedy. Nothing could be further from the truth. WMDC claim they are offering full market price plus £50k. If this was on the table all the remaining residents would be signed up and out. The Offers made by WMDC are public record but have been conveniently not mentioned.
The cost to the public funds to issue a CPO will be far bigger than to actually pay out the amounts claimed by WMDC. Let’s hope the Secretary of State comments on this.
This could happen to anyone. Please lend your support to these brave people over the coming weeks.

A new planning application to close the highway to the remaining residents has been filled. This would create an un-serviceable area for police, fire and ambulance in the highest arson rate area for miles. Looks like the residents will need a 4 x 4 now to get home.

Something must be going on. A new self proclaimed expert who lives on Girnhill Lane (nice side) and who works for Doncaster Council has informed some remaining residents that the secretary of state has refused a public enquiry. This information is apparently backed up by a certain Labour and District Cllr. Has anyone heard anything?

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Looks like the info was wrong! How a Labour Cllr’s agreement to begin the demise of the Girnhill Estate will now finally slap him in the face. Due to the continued persistence of WMDC not to pay a fair price for property and by applying for a CPO order to kick out the remaining residents on the estate, a whole can of worms has now publicly opened. We the public just pay the bill for this madness. The residents in defense of the CPO threat have provided their information to the Secretary of State. The facts over the last 13 years have provided enough significant evidence that the Secretary of state has not agreed with WMDC and has now called a public enquiry. The purpose of the enquiry is to gather further evidence and hear from anyone involved or with knowledge of the events. The enquiry will be held in Wakefield, probably somewhere like the Cedar Court hotel. WMDC will be paying the bill for this and all the legal teams involved. What a huge waste of public money. Why don’t WMDC not just give in and pay the fair price to the last 3 residents and still have money left over compared to the legal costs about to be inquired. What ever your view its now time to be heard. If you have been a resident at some point or are someone associated with the Girnhill Estate you will be able now to stand up and have your say. All those years of torment are now about to become very public. Shortly there will be public advertisements showing details of the enquiry. This is going to be very interesting……………

Nice one I bet there’s a few wmdc employees getting a bit hot under the collar about this I wonder if any residents that left because of the threat of cpo will be able to claim any compensation worth a try
