READY

« on: September 15, 2011, 07:08:11 pm »

This was just going to be a great find………..

If you were not aware two properties on Post Office road have been demolished. Both the ex-ACE Engineering units at either end of the street now lay as rubble ready for houses to be built.
The first building in its history was the WMDC housing repair depot and the Featherstone mortuary before that.
Lucky for Featherstone a local man passing had a brief conversation and asked the whereabouts of 2 stone plaques he had seen as a kid. Fortunately they still existed but were due to be destroyed that day. The man asked the contractor if he could have them. After uming and aring about time money and space the contractor agreed if the stones could be removed by 1.30pm Featherstone could have them as a gift.
With a little sprinkle of Featherstone spirit volunteers were found mainly from the War Memorial Gardens. The stones were taken to a secure yard for keeping.
A few days later so called better place to store the stones was offered to the man by Cllr Bill Mulroe. The stones were then transported to Featherstone town hall where they are now.
The picture you see is of wings. This looks to be a thin stone plate mounted on concrete. 4 men can just lift it. Under this is the bigger stone that 6 men can just get on its edge. A picture will be taken when more help is available.

The “just” bit will unravel its self shortly.
