What is it with Featherstone and demolition?

THE OLD HIPPODROME - DEMOLISHED
LISTER BATHS - DEMOLISHED
THE GIRNHILL LANE ESTATE - DEMOLISHED
BOTTOM OF THE LANE - DEMOLISHED
FERNDALE CARE HOME - DEMOLISED
CRYSTAL DRINKS - DEMOLISHED
SCOTTS PACKAGING - DEMOLISHED
KWIK SAVE - DEMOLISHED
VARIOUS CLUBS AROUND THE TOWN - DEMOLISHED

Fair enough, a couple are for the better, but it makes you wonder what's next doesn't it?

HAVE I MISSED ANY?

There still more to come;
1.   Modetex site planning highways report “when someone is killed the houses on Pontefract Road would be compulsory purchased to create an entrance”.
2.   The old book makers have gone. This story will continue shortly.
3.   Anyone notice Verner getting boarded up as people leave? That wouldn’t because they are knocking it down because the authority says so.
4.   You would think Chesneys is safe?
5.   Featherstone Tech is a cracking housing estate. Sorry info not released until June.
6.   Oakhill children’s centre. Whoops, what’s that bit of the Girnhill plans that puts a road entrance at the school and no picture of development.

Your right Mr T. What next. Its easier to look at what the government is giving as incentive to demolish and then work out what’s next.

Quite often not all is revealed at WDH forums. WDH do hold other meetings. At one of these was given an update of the full situation. The minutes should be public realm in about 6 weeks.
The facts surrounding 2012 appear not to have been discussed at your meetings.
By 2012 WDH must complete many home upgrades including Verner Street. 2012 is not a vague deadline but an issue of concern for WDH to complete all works or be seen to fall short. None completion will incur penalties. 2012 is only 18 months away.

WDH have delayed Verner Street repairs because of the Girnhill estate. The idea was to move residents out to Girnhill whilst a full refurbishment/ demolition was carried out. Demolition is mentioned because it is a possibility due to the size of improvements required. As you can see there are no new houses on Girnhill to move to nor will there be for at least a year at best.
There is also another problem. Gas, or the lack of a gas main. Before any works start on Verner a gas main has to be installed. This will not be laid until Girnhill is ready to start. The fact that other areas are without gas has significance also.

So the fact is that there is a hell of a lot to happen in a short space of time to meet the Verner Street deadline. There is a solution…. Its called a bulldozer. No houses means no problems for WDH.

So what will happen to the money already allocated for Verner improvements if it's demolished? I thought this money had been given by the EU?

The easy way to explain would be that you can only get so much gas out of a fixed size of pipe, unless your name is JESUS.

So what will happen to the money already allocated for Verner improvements if it's demolished? I thought this money had been given by the EU?

That will be the penalty and the significance of 2012:(

Yes, my mum just moved out of brentwood into the recently refurbished new priory. Demolition is currently being put out to tender because two men asked to look round brentwood a couple of weeks ago and let the cat out of the bag who they were.  Shocked

the bottom of station lane looks excellent with the new Supermarket.
I rememeber when the shop on the corner that was demolished, was owned by Henry Fox.
