in 2003 i bought no 6 Station lane. in the attick was a deep pile of items going back to 1920. after sifting through the junk i came across a number of rugby items. my favourate is a scrap book that looks to be from 1956 yo 1959. what you see is a scan of the pages from start to finnish.

well putting this on here has given me a right old history lesson this week. it started with and old friend called Jack who played for the rovers pre-war coming in and looking at the book. it brought back loads of memories for him. we are going to try and get some of his vintage film and photos on shortly going back to the 30s.
by chance a lady came in the shop and got chatting about the building. this led to finding out she is the grand daughter of the scrap books author a man called Bob Ellis this led to him coming down and looking at the 2 boxs of stuff i had saved. this guy could remember every game and the disapointment at some results. he left very happy and said he would provide some other bits to place here. should be great.

My dad has got an old 8MM (silent) film that he took himself of Featherstone Rovers coming down Station Lane on an open top bus with the Challenge Cup when they won it in 1983! We also have the Quarter Final, Semi Final and Final games on DVD! OH HAPPY DAYS   Smiley

I was informed last night by someone that the lady in question is called Mrs Mogg! That's all I can tell you!

The man in the passenger seat of the wagon is Jack Clarke. He lived at 14 Wakefield Road Featherstone which was his home and the front office of Littlewoods Soft Drinks until Horace Littlewood built a new house in the factory yard, behind Priory Road Fisheries, for Mr Clarke and his family. Mr Clarke was a "Jack of all trades" at the factory, by name and by nature. He was a long time supporter of the Rovers.

I have a number of names for a driver and will ask old employees if they remember who he was, unless someone else comes up with a name in the meantime.

my latest this week is a shot of the old terrace being taken down. also a shot of the challenge cup. i have been told that the cup as you see it is how you see it now. previously its hieght had been added to but then removed.

The 2 pictures are of an era when the Rovers were known as the "FEATHERSTONE PIGS or FEATHERSTONE STEAM PIGS". Aparently thier all red tops and white shorts with warmed up bodies made them look like the name. The first picture is 1926, the second 1927. I have 1 name for both teams. can we name the rest and fill in the blanks?

I’ve been loaned some vintage Rovers 35mm slides not seen before. Has anyone got a 35mm slide to USB converter they could lend me for a couple of days, please? I will get some snaps posted ASAP. Grin
