there is a picture out there of the sun inn in   all its former glory , the side road on the right hand side used to be a ginnal ( sorry if spelt wrong but that's how it sounds )with a room over the top that led to another building where the car park is now, also i was also led to believe that at one time the sun was actually called the brads and the brads the sun , unsure if both are correct .
i once did some research into featherstone of old and am fascinated by old pictures, there are some really good ones out there , i managed to get hold of about 50 or so and will try to find and upload them if anyone's interested. Smiley

it's true that the Sun Inn was formally Bradleys arms then they changed name over, I  know of the lady who used to run the Brads when it opened at it's currant site. Does anybody remember Harriet Harrison?
there used to be a building where the currant car park is for the sun inn.

She's still about, but does'nt get out much now.
As for the building next door to the sun inn, as far i know is that it was a separate dwelling. ie like a blacksmith or something in that line.
But it's all very intersting...has anybody heard of Arthur Messanger, he's quite good with Featherstone history.

I went to the Ozzie on it's opening night 1968 I think. It was a very smart place back then.

the working mens' clubs have more or less bitten the dust with the exception of the correr and the green lane.

Staring at the top was Old Featherstone Working Mens' club. Over the bar was a plaque commemorating a member who died in a Japanese prisoner of of war camp
further down was the Rat Trap, also recently demolished. Ironically its predecessor still exists over the road from where it was.
then there was the Green lane. I remember being in there once when the committee office caught fire in the middle of a bingo game. It was always smoky in there and nobody noticed the difference. The fire brigade showed up and the bingo players were livid at having their game interrupted.

Then there was the blood tub, still in existance as the featherstone number one club. There was always something wild and woolly about the blood tub. It was on the edge of town with . It was called the blood tub because of the violence that took place there. Seneca Bond and his brother wouild attack eac h other with pokers. They's sit at opposite corners of the room seething with resentment and getting drunker until the bubble burst.
then there was the central. I was a member there-number 1214. I loved it on a Sunday dinner time: a couple of pints in the company of my uncles.

then there was the correr. For some reason I've never set foot in it.
There used to be a wmc in Purston Park before my time. It was the crow's nest. It had a bad reputation as a drinking den. My grtand dad was a member there

Anyone got a clue what’s going on with the Ozzy pub.
Some of the workmen are travelers. Drove past today and could see the skip being used as a bonfire, a typical traveler way of doing things.

That probably explains last weeks rumors about the Ozzie being turned into an Indian Restaurant and the other one was it was going to be a Mosque.

believe it or not asians do other things beside run reastaurants, drive taxis and go to the mosque.

if they are planning a restaurant on the site, it looks a poor proposition because of where it is situated.
but you never know

it's across the road from one anyway, the population of the immediate area has fallen with the staedy demise of the coal board estate, and there's a vaulue supermarket round the corner.

It would appear that all my picture links have gone from this forum, so I have uploaded them again for all to view. There are still some pubs missing if anyone as picture of them i.e. The Rat Trap - Old Progressive Club - The Central
