Exciting things are happening in Featherstone with the arrival of Linford Christie (100m Olympic Gold medallist) and Darren Campbell (also 100m medallist) on Sunday 19th July 2009.

The event as been organised by Sport and Active Lifestyles in partnership with the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and Featherstone Town Council, it is being held to identify raw sprinting talent in the build up to 2012 Olympics.

The event will give young people across the District the opportunity to be talent spotted, to access specialist coaching provided by Katherine Merry and then be referred to a regional competition.

A 60 metre sprint straight is being created on Lister Close, Featherstone, WF7 5BT for all budding athletes in Featherstone along with some fun athletics for the non competing athletes. To enable us to run these events we will need to close Lister Close and Lister Road. As it will not be possible to drive up and down the road we would be grateful if you could move your car to another street enabling you access to your car if needed (especially those on the road where the old swimming pool use to stand as this is where the sprint runs will take place) The road by the side of the Chapel will be open for access if you need to use it. The event will run from 10am through to 6pm.

If you have any questions or concerns about the day please feel free to contact me on the above number. If you would like to help out and support this day please let me know.

We look forward to seeing you on the day.

We are hoping that it will truly be an inspirational opportunity for young people across Wakefield and we would welcome your presence.
