Title: Information Needed on Featherstone Main Pit Post by: Seamus on September 17, 2008, 09:39:37 pm I'm currently doing some research on mining in Featherstone, in particular on Featherstone Main. I'm looking mainly for dates of the it opened/was sunk and when it closed, although and other useful information would be greatly appreciated.
If you know anything, please let me know! ;D Title: Re: Information Needed on Featherstone Main Pit Post by: ABBOO on September 17, 2008, 10:32:25 pm Seamus go onto Google page and type in Ackton hall colliery, then when the pages come up go to page 2 then click on The Archives folder and look on there. ;D ;D ;D

Title: Re: Information Needed on Featherstone Main Pit Post by: Old Stonian on February 13, 2009, 12:32:48 pm There's a lot of information about the three local collieries in Tony Lumb's "Featherstone the Millennium Tome", and Irvin Saxton's "The Featherstone Chronicle". Both ought to be in the library, but I don't know if they are. My dad said his first job was as a pony driver at Featherstone Main and it was very wet. He was glad when he got a job at the dry Ackton Hall. |
