Title: Target Hardening
Post by: fev angel on March 07, 2010, 03:03:52 pm

We have arranged two days of pro-active Target Hardening to combat the
increase in Burglary dwelling in two hotspots within the Wakefield
Division.

The first day will be Thursday 28th January  where we will be targeting the
Barracks Sheltered housing complex on Queens Ave, Pontefract and the second
will be on Friday 29th January at Lupset ( area to be confirmed). (Esther
Grove)

The third day will take place on Tuesday 9th March 2010 targeting HUNTWICK
CRESCENT, FEATHERSTONE. The meeting place for ALL agencies will be at the
WDH Independent Living Scheme, 5, Huntwick Road, Featherstone at 10.00am.

The scheme is budgeted via the Safer Homes fund which was given to WDH.
This incorporates a multi-agency approach (Police,Fire, WDH) to combat
Burglary dwellings in specific areas. The fund is aimed at both WDH and
privately owned dwellings.

The funding was given to WDH in late 2009 and to date the funding has been
used to pay for the Target Hardening referrals made by Police for victims
of Burglary dwelling. This also applies to possible Burglary dwelling crime
vulnerable victims not subject to crime.

The  days of action  are  a pro-active rather than reactive approach to
combat burglary dwellings. A package containing Police, Fire Service and
WDH literature (covering all aspects of Domestic safety) will be given to
the occupant of the dwelling. Arrangements will be made to Target Harden
the address if required by the WDH Target Hardening team. This will be  a
free service. The elderly/vulnerable repeat victims will take priority.
PCSO's from the appropriate NPT will be present to give a valid uniform
presence. Fire officers will also be present giving advice on fire safety/
smoke detectors/fire related criminal offences
